Contribute

Propose a problem, share reported research progress, or help improve an existing record. Choose the route that fits your contribution.

Propose a new problem

Use the form below to describe an open problem, where it was posed, and what is known. The maintainers prepare accepted proposals for publication.

Submit a progress report

Share an archival manuscript or paper link and a short summary for an existing problem, or link an earlier GitHub report. New reports require archival sources.

Report a correction

Point out a typo, citation problem, or status concern in an existing record. Include the problem link and a short explanation of the proposed correction.

Contribute through GitHub

Follow the contribution guide to prepare a record and open a pull request, or open a new-problem issue. The same source requirements apply.

Recording a progress report does not certify correctness or set a problem's status. Read the progress source requirements.

Propose a new problem

Send a proposal without an account. The maintainers review proposals and publish accepted records with credit to contributors.

The problem

A short descriptive title, as it would head the problem page.

Self-contained, with the definitions, hypotheses, and quantifiers a reader needs, and a checkable resolution criterion. Use $…$ for inline mathematics and $$ on separate lines for display mathematics. The formula preview below also supports TeX delimiters and equation environments. Up to 30,000 characters.

Classification

One or two broad research areas. Pick from the list, or choose “Other” to name one of your own. Numbers show how many problems each field holds today.

One to five specific objects, techniques, or settings. Pick from the list, or choose “Other” to name one of your own.

      Sources and progress

The paper or preprint that posed the problem, or the papers in which it is implicit. If it has no literature source, write “Contributor: your name”.

Describe reported results and their scope. If you include research progress, add the archival manuscript or paper links below. An ordinary new-problem proposal need not include a resolving paper; leave this section empty if there is no research update to report.

Full bibliographic entries with DOI and arXiv identifiers, one per line. BibTeX is welcome.

      Anything else

The remaining gap, relations to problems already in the zoo (give their IDs), naming conventions, or notes for the maintainers, such as how you would like to be credited.

Use $\operatorname{Tr}(\rho)=1$ for inline math and $$ on separate lines for display math. Prefer explicit norms: $\lVert A\rVert_\infty$. Type one backslash per command; drafts and inbox submissions keep your TeX. Copy for GitHub protects formulas from Markdown and adapts operator names. Put code examples inside backticks or fenced code blocks.

      About you
